AWLUC Runs 2-Day Workshop for Women Leaders

AWLUC was pleased to recently run a two-day workshop for women leaders from Sidang Wanita and Jawatankuasa Pembangunan Wanita dan Keluarga (JPWK; Women’s Development and Family Committee) in partnership with the Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC).

Both trainings were conducted by Ms. Maria Chin Abdullah, former Member of Parliament and an activist for woman and human rights, with assistance from her officer, Encik Azemi Mohamad Yunus.

The first training, “Strengthening Women’s Strategic Policy Development,” was held on 9 September 2023 and focused on strengthening Sidang Wanita women leaders in strategic policy development promoting gender equality and democracy.

The second training, “Localising Gender Equality into Community Programmes,” was held the next day, 10 September 2023, and aimed to amplify the potential of grass root women leaders to promote women’s advancement. Participants explored methods of capitalising on local expertise and engagement for local issues and activities and discussed techniques for instilling grassroots’ ownership of beneficiaries’ own initiatives and programmes.
